O betão é o material de construção mais utilizado. A utilização global de betão aumentou para 30 mil milhões de toneladas métricas por ano. A cura é essencial para a resistência do betão. A cura tradicional requer muita água, e uma cura insuficiente pode causar fissuras e retração. As tecnologias de cura, como a cura interna, foram desenvolvidas para resolver estes problemas. O agregado leve pré-umedecido é utilizado como agente de cura interna no betão para adicionar humidade durante a hidratação. Este estudo investiga a vermiculite como agente de cura interna. O betão é submetido a um processo de cura em tanque, envolto e à temperatura ambiente, com a vermiculite a substituir 10, 30 e 50% do agregado fino em volume. Foram avaliados a compressão, a flexão e o módulo de elasticidade. Os testes de durabilidade incluíram a sorptividade e a resistência aos ácidos. A vermiculite pode ser utilizada como agente de cura interior para reforçar o betão e aumentar a sua durabilidade.
