Questo studio si concentra sul profilo fitochimico dell’estratto acquoso di foglie di Vernonia amygdalina, una pianta riconosciuta per le sue ampie applicazioni medicinali nella medicina tradizionale. L’obiettivo è stato quello di identificare e quantificare le principali sostanze fitochimiche utilizzando l’analisi degli idrocarburi policiclici aromatici (IPA), che offre un approccio completo per valutare la composizione chimica degli estratti vegetali. Le foglie sono state raccolte, essiccate e sottoposte a estrazione acquosa per massimizzare la ritenzione dei composti bioattivi e garantire la sostenibilità ambientale. Il processo di estrazione è stato ottimizzato per aumentare la resa e l’efficacia, seguito da uno screening fitochimico dettagliato con diverse tecniche analitiche. I risultati hanno dimostrato la presenza di una vasta gamma di sostanze fitochimiche, tra cui flavonoidi, alcaloidi, tannini e composti fenolici, associati a vari effetti farmacologici. L’analisi quantitativa ha rivelato che l’estratto è particolarmente ricco di flavonoidi, noti per le loro proprietà antiossidanti, e di alcaloidi, riconosciuti per i loro potenziali effetti terapeutici contro una serie di malattie.
