L’agricoltura perenne e l’industria mineraria sono le principali attività economiche di Boundiali. Di conseguenza, la copertura mediatica della bonanza del cotone oscura la politica di autosufficienza delle colture alimentari locali. L’emarginazione dell’agricoltura per la produzione alimentare è quindi tornata sotto i riflettori, creando una forte domanda di cibo nell’area di studio. Tuttavia, le popolazioni rurali hanno creato un’organizzazione socio-culturale per rifornire il mercato urbano di Boundiali. Lo scopo di questo studio è analizzare l’impatto della produzione alimentare locale nell’approvvigionamento del mercato di Boundiali. I risultati mostrano che mais (37,85%), arachidi (37,38%), riso (22,33%) e igname (1,87%) sono le colture alimentari dominanti offerte dai produttori locali al mercato di Boundiali. Pollo (36,19%), capra (8,25%), montone (23,92%), manzo (27,20%), maiale (1,27%) e faraona (3,17%) sono i principali prodotti alimentari animali nel blocco di studio.
