Integrierte landwirtschaftliche Produktionssysteme gewinnen immer mehr an Bedeutung, vor allem wegen der Schwierigkeiten der Viehzüchter, Kapital in die Umgestaltung der Weiden zu investieren, und der Landwirte, das Produktionspotenzial der Kulturen wiederherzustellen, im Hinblick auf Probleme im Zusammenhang mit der Verringerung des Gehalts an organischer Substanz im Boden, dem Auftreten von Schädlingen, Krankheiten, Nematoden und Unkraut. In diesen Systemen kann die Nutzung von Weiden in der Nebensaison dazu beitragen, diese Hindernisse zu überwinden. Ziel dieses Forschungsprojekts war es daher, die Produktivität und Qualität von Futter-Sorghum-Silage im Konsortium mit Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu, Megathyrsus maximum cv. Mombaça und/oder Guandu-anão (Cajanus cajan) sowie die Produktivität und Qualität von Weidegras-Marandu und Gras-Mombaça nach Konsortium mit Sorghum im integrierten landwirtschaftlichen Produktionssystem zu bestimmen.
