L’hygiène intime féminine englobe l’ensemble des soins et pratiques relatifs à l’hygiène des organes génitaux féminins comme la vulve et le vagin afin d’éviter les maladies infectieuses locales ou de répondre à des normes imposées par la culture ou la publicité. Il est à noter que peu de données sont disponibles au sujet des habitudes des femmes relatives à l’hygiène intime. Les conclusions de quelques travaux existants ne convergent pas en matière de l’effet de certains produits intimes utilisés sur la flore vaginale. Une meilleure connaissance du rôle que joue chaque produit appliqué sur les microorganismes colonisant le vagin ou sur les spermatozoïdes qui le traversent permettrait aux femmes de faire un choix judicieux sur les produits d’hygiène intime mis à leur disposition. Elle aiderait également à adapter les pratiques d’hygiène aux spécificités locales de manière à limiter le risque de déséquilibre écologique vaginal. Le but de cette étude était d’établir un lien d’une part entre les produits d’hygiène intime féminine de Kinshasa et la perturbation de la flore vaginale et d’autre part entre ces produits et l’immobilisation des spermatozoïdes.
