This book dwells on the significance of production scheduling and elucidates comprehensive information and concepts related to it. Scheduling is the method of mapping a set of tasks or jobs to a set of target resources effectively. More specifically, as a part of a bigger plan and scheduling method, production scheduling is necessary for the proper functioning of a manufacturing corporation. This book discusses topics like rescheduling strategies, policies and procedures for production scheduling; flow shop scheduling; and heuristic and metaheuristic procedures for treating the scheduling difficulty in an efficient way. To explain this effectively, two test cases are also presented. The first case makes use of simulation, whereas the second presents actual application of a production scheduling system. Some modeling strategies for building production scheduling systems are also discussed. This book will be useful to those working in the decision-making branches of production in different operational research fields and computational process design.
