Les briques sont un matériau de construction largement utilisé dans le monde entier. Les briques conventionnelles sont produites à partir d’argile avec une cuisson au four à haute température ou à partir de béton de ciment Portland ordinaire (OPC), et contiennent donc une grande quantité d’énergie intrinsèque et ont une empreinte carbone importante. Dans de nombreuses régions du monde, il y a déjà une pénurie de matériaux naturels pour la production de briques conventionnelles. Dans un souci de protection de l’environnement et de développement durable, des recherches approfondies ont été menées sur la production de briques à partir de déchets. Cet article présente un état des lieux de la recherche sur l’utilisation des déchets pour produire des briques. Une grande variété de déchets a été étudiée pour produire des briques avec différentes méthodes. La recherche peut être divisée en trois catégories générales basées sur les méthodes de production de briques à partir de déchets : la cuisson, la cimentation et la géopolymérisation. Bien que de nombreuses recherches aient été menées, la production commerciale de briques à partir de déchets est encore très limitée.
