Procurement and inventory management policies are very closely linked. They share a common goal: to determine when and how much to order in order to achieve the lowest possible overall cost for the goods and products needed to maintain the business, while maintaining sufficient safety stock. The procurement function cannot be efficient on its own because, after a purchase is made, storage is required-which is where the well-known concept of procurement management and profitability comes into play. This management is proving increasingly challenging within companies, in that, in the majority of the very small businesses surveyed, management practices are archaic, bordering on chaotic; resulting in stockouts or overstocking of certain products, which causes enormous losses for the business. Thus, the fundamental question that arises is: Does supply management, from a qualitative perspective, influence the profitability of very small businesses? To best address this topic, the answer to this question will form the core of our study.
