Com o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa, investigámos para determinar as estratégias de resolução de problemas utilizadas pelos alunos do quarto ano do bacharelato. Para isso, identificámos quais eram as suas estratégias e procedemos à sua classificação. A teoria subjacente a esta investigação baseia-se na teoria da aprendizagem significativa de Ausubel, segundo a qual os alunos assimilam os conhecimentos de duas formas, uma mecânica e outra significativa. O desenho da investigação é não-experimental e descritivo. Para a sua realização, foram aplicados um questionário e uma entrevista semi-estruturada a um grupo de estudantes seleccionados através de uma técnica de amostragem não-probabilística. A partir deste processo, determinou-se que os alunos utilizam maioritariamente estratégias de resolução de problemas recorrendo a processos mecânicos e a processos significativos na sua resolução. No entanto, também se determinou que, apesar de utilizarem processos mecânicos e significativos, um grande número de alunos não resolve os problemas ou não reflecte significativamente sobre os métodos aplicados.
