La Giardia lamblia e l’Entamoeba histolytica sono due importanti parassiti del tratto gastrointestinale che causano gastroenterite nella popolazione umana. Il presente studio è stato condotto per verificare la prevalenza di questi due parassiti nei corsi d’acqua e nell’acqua dei pozzi a cielo aperto del distretto di Hangu, nella provincia di Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sono stati esaminati 200 campioni mediante PCR, che ha evidenziato il 26,5% (53/200) e il 22,5% (45/200) di risultati positivi rispettivamente per la Giardia lamblia e l’E. histolytica. Il prodotto della PCR per la Giardia lamblia era un HSP (proteina da shock termico) di 163 bp, mentre per l’Entamoeba histolytica era un piccolo frammento di DNA di 135 bp.
