Giardia lamblia und Entamoeba histolytica sind zwei wichtige Parasiten des Magen-Darm-Trakts, die beim Menschen eine Gastroenteritis verursachen. Die vorliegende Studie wurde durchgeführt, um die Prävalenz dieser beiden Parasiten in Fluss- und offenem Brunnenwasser im Distrikt Hangu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa zu untersuchen. 200 Proben wurden mittels PCR untersucht, wobei 26,5 % (53/200) bzw. 22,5 % (45/200) der Proben positiv auf Giardia lamblia bzw. E. histolytica getestet wurden. Das PCR-Produkt für Giardia lamblia betrug 163 bp HSP (Hitzeschockprotein) und für Entamoeba histolytica ein kleines DNA-Fragment von 135 bp.
