Der Autor erklärt alle wichtigen Begriffe rund um das Thema Patente und Gebrauchsmuster, Innovation und Neuheit, erfinderische Leistung uvm. nach dem Motto „Patentrecht ohne Paragraphen'. Die Datenbanken des DPMA, des EPA und des USPTO enthalten jeweils mehr als 80 Mio. Patentdokumente, die im Deepweb frei zur Verfügung stehen. Das ist ein Wissensschatz den es zu heben gilt. Wichtige Internetseiten werden genannt in denen der Leser nach dem Rechtstand von Patenten und nach dem Stand der Technik recherchieren kann. Die für die einzelnen Datenbanken (Deutschland, Europa, USA) erforderlichen Suchvariablen und die notwendige Syntax werden anhand von Beispielen dem Leser näher gebracht. Dem Leser werden auch Methoden vorgestellt, mit denen er erfinderische Lösungen selbst erarbeiten kann. Schließlich erhält der Leser eine Vorlage zur Ausarbeitung der eigenen Patentbeschreibung.
