O grão-de-bico (Cicer aretinum L.) é a terceira cultura de leguminosas mais importante do mundo. É uma fonte rica em proteína vegetal para a nutrição humana. A ferrugem causada pelo fungo Ascochyta rabiei é a principal doença que limita a produtividade do grão-de-bico a nível mundial. Provoca anualmente elevadas perdas de rendimento no grão-de-bico e pode causar a perda total da colheita em condições epidémicas. As estratégias de gestão visam prevenir a ocorrência da doença e limitar a sua propagação. A utilização de fungicidas para controlar esta doença é eficaz, mas os pesticidas poluem o ambiente e representam riscos para a saúde. Os derivados botânicos são mais seguros para o ambiente do que os produtos químicos sintéticos. A Cassia fistula é bem conhecida pelas suas propriedades farmacêuticas, antifúngicas e antimicrobianas. Assim, no presente estudo, foi avaliada a atividade antifúngica da C. fistula contra a mancha do grão-de-bico.
