Poetry for the Dysfunctional is the first part of the lifelong collection of poetry from the self-described 'King of Dysfunction.' Adolph Utellus Hudson was born to a single mother in the Midwest, the youngest of six children. His mother died when he was three and thus began his journey into a dysfunctional life. Raised by an aunt who was very strict, Adolph spent his time learning in school and church. At the age of five, Adolph became aware of his special connection with God. He asked God for only one thing, wisdom. God was faithful and he opened him up to a world that many can’t see. As a junior in high school, he received a full engineering scholarship to a major university. His success was short-lived and at nineteen, Adolph started an illegal drug business. At twenty-one, he fathered two children. Two years later, the mother of his first-born passed away. For five years after that tragic event, Adolph wandered the streets, homeless, until one day he stumbled into the City Mission. There God spoke to him again. At thirty, Adolph was licensed to preach the gospel. His poetry reflects the emotion of the dysfunctional events that make up his life.
