Areka katechu (Areca catechu L.) to tropikalna palma jednopienna należąca do rodziny Palmae. Podłoża doniczkowe odgrywają ważną rolę we wzroście roślin na wczesnych etapach wzrostu, zapewniając odżywianie wymagane przez rośliny do zdrowego i energicznego wzrostu. Arecanut jest rośliną wieloletnią i charakteryzuje się powolnym procesem wzrostu na etapie sadzonek. W związku z tym rozwój sadzonek można poprawić poprzez zastosowanie różnych kombinacji podłoży doniczkowych. W latach 2021-22 w College of Horticulture, Dr. BSKKV, Dapoli przeprowadzono eksperyment szkółkarski w celu określenia odpowiednich podłoży do uprawy sadzonek areki w workach foliowych. Eksperyment został przeprowadzony w randomizowanym układzie blokowym i składał się z ośmiu zabiegów. Eksperyment wykazał, że różne podłoża doniczkowe mają znaczący wpływ na wzrost sadzonek areki. Zabieg zawierający glebę, wermikompost i piasek w proporcji 1: 1: 1 okazał się najbardziej skuteczny w promowaniu wzrostu i korzystny dla produkcji wytrzymałych sadzonek arakanu.
