Websuchmaschinen sind entscheidend für die Bewältigung der Informationsflut. Ein wesentlicher Mangel bestehender Suchsysteme besteht darin, dass sie in der Regel keine Nutzermodellierung vornehmen und sich nicht an einzelne Nutzer anpassen, was zu einer von Natur aus suboptimalen Suchleistung führt. So können beispielsweise ein Programmierer und ein Geologe denselben Begriff „Python' verwenden, um nach unterschiedlichen Informationen zu suchen, doch die derzeitigen Suchsysteme würden dieselben Ergebnisse liefern. Daher ist es unerlässlich, ein Nutzerprofil zu erstellen, das dazu dient, die Ergebnisse auf der Grundlage der aktuellen Interessen des Nutzers neu zu gewichten. Das vorgeschlagene Framework präsentiert einen neuartigen Ansatz zur Personalisierung der Websuche durch die Modellierung von Nutzerprofilen und die Neuformulierung der Suchanfrage des Nutzers anhand der Analyse seines bisherigen Suchverlaufs, seiner Klicks sowie seiner langfristigen und kurzfristigen Interessen.
