La struttura del testo è suddivisa in tre capitoli. Inizialmente, Pensare la città comprende un’analisi storica dell’urbanizzazione del territorio e della sua evoluzione politica ed economica, comprendendo il processo di segregazione socio-spaziale delle classi di reddito all’interno dello spazio intraurbano della città. Costruire la città identifica il modo in cui gli agenti pubblici e privati e i movimenti sociali agiscono nella costruzione della città contemporanea e analizza alcuni degli sviluppi nella regione oggetto di studio. Vivere la città propone linee guida generali per l’urbanizzazione e la progettazione della città, al fine di generare una riflessione sui modi per migliorare la qualità della vita della popolazione e degli spazi pubblici.
