Cette étude examine l’engagement social et communautaire des jeunes atteints de troubles du développement intellectuel (TDI). L’étude a été menée auprès des principaux soignants de ces jeunes. L’étude explore également l’accessibilité et l’encouragement que les aidants donnent aux jeunes pour leur inclusion sociale. L’étude ajoute des thèmes tels que la dynamique familiale, les défis, les stratégies mises en œuvre, les réseaux de soutien gouvernementaux. La recherche met l’accent sur une approche qualitative en utilisant un programme d’entretiens semi-structurés comme outil pour en savoir plus sur l’inclusion sociale et l’engagement communautaire des jeunes atteints de troubles du développement intellectuel. Les résultats montrent que la plupart des jeunes atteints de troubles du développement intellectuel sont intégrés dans la société avec l’aide des soignants des écoles spéciales. Les résultats montrent que si les aidants comprennent les avantages d’être inclus dans la communauté, ils se heurtent fréquemment à des obstacles à un engagement significatif, tels que la stigmatisation sociale, les problèmes d’accessibilité et le manque de réseaux sociaux.
