L’aonla o uva spina indiana (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.) è originaria del subcontinente indiano e appartiene alla famiglia delle Euphorbiaceae. Grazie alla sua rusticità, all’adattabilità a diversi terreni incolti, all’elevata produttività, ai valori nutritivi e terapeutici, l’aonla è diventata un frutto importante. Il clima, che va dalle calde pianure tropicali alle umide colline subtropicali di media altitudine, è adatto alla sua coltivazione. Viene coltivata con successo in condizioni aride, semi-aride, costiere e temperate calde e cresce bene in aree saline, alcaline e degradate. L’obiettivo principale della pacciamatura è quello di evitare la perdita di acqua per evaporazione, prevenire l’erosione del suolo, controllare le erbe infestanti, ecc. La pacciamatura si è rivelata un metodo efficace per aumentare la resa delle colture frutticole tropicali. Tenendo conto dell’immensa importanza della pacciamatura dell’aonla nelle aree piovose per il successo della sua coltivazione, il libro si basa su un’indagine condotta per valutare l’effetto dei materiali pacciamanti sulla crescita degli alberi, sulla resa e sulla qualità dei frutti dell’aonla cv. NA-7 in condizioni di pioggia.
