In Colombia non vengono prodotti né la pectina né gli oli essenziali necessari a coprire la domanda generata principalmente dal settore alimentare e farmaceutico. Per questo motivo, sono state utilizzate le bucce di arance di Valencia provenienti dalla regione produttrice del dipartimento di Cesar per ottenerle e osservarne l’applicazione nella produzione di gel. Inizialmente, l’olio essenziale è stato estratto per trascinamento a vapore e successivamente la pectina è stata estratta per idrolisi acida, con l’obiettivo di sfruttare al meglio il sottoprodotto dell’industria del succo d’arancia, che può essere successivamente utilizzato per ottenere fertilizzanti o mangimi concentrati. Questo lavoro mira a contribuire allo sviluppo agroindustriale dell’industria colombiana, in particolare nel Dipartimento di Cesar, per aumentare la redditività dei processi, ridurre le importazioni di questi prodotti e ridurre l’impatto ambientale causato dal mancato utilizzo di questi scarti.
