Este livro argumenta que a ameaça à identidade coletiva dos Ultras por parte do Estado forçou os Ultras a reagir politicamente como um corpo coletivo em relação ao Estado. O trabalho baseia-se em quatro questões principais para examinar as mudanças na natureza das práticas dos Ultras à luz da sua relação com o Estado: 1) Por que razão as ideias adotadas pelos Ultras tiveram tanto apelo junto dos jovens? 2) Como é que o Estado agiu de forma a levar os Ultras a radicalizar e politizar as suas práticas? 3) Como é que os grupos Ultras interagiram com as novas realidades criadas pela revolução egípcia? E, finalmente, 4) Qual poderá ser o futuro do ativismo político dos Ultras? Este estudo conclui que a identidade coletiva dos Ultras foi fundamentalmente afetada pelo crescente envolvimento dos grupos na política após a revolução de 25 de janeiro de 2011. A revolução tirou os membros dos Ultras do estádio, o que fez com que os grupos se ajustassem à ausência do principal fator que os unia: realizar as tarefas que lhes eram atribuídas na condução das atividades dentro do estádio. Consequentemente, os grupos, especialmente os Ultras Ahlawy, testemunharam muitas divisões internas.
