Oddities Let Loose is William Hartley’s fourth anthology of previously published articles. They cover some less well visited parts of the world ranging from Peru and its shocking murder rate, to Western Sahara, the Caucasus and the Middle East where he looks at a possible revival of the Hejaz Railway. Closer to home he writes about life in a former fishing port, the old mining towns of the North East and operating conditions in our prisons. William Hartley is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and works as an archivist for the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers.
