Biopaliwa płynne są szczególnie ważne w transporcie ciężkim, ponieważ skutecznych „zielonych' alternatyw nie ma tak wiele w porównaniu z pojazdami lekkimi, dla których np. elektryfikacja jest opcją. Niniejsza książka przedstawia studium porównawcze 8 płynnych biopaliw z łącznie 13 różnymi ścieżkami paliwowymi do wykorzystania w drogowym transporcie towarowym; oceniane są zarówno obecne, jak i potencjalne przyszłe paliwa pod względem ich wpływu na środowisko, właściwości paliwa i kompatybilności z silnikami pojazdów ciężarowych. Ponadto przeprowadzono studium przypadku w celu oceny praktyczności wyników badania. Jako paliwa o znacznym potencjale w perspektywie krótkoterminowej zidentyfikowano hydrorafinowany olej roślinny, bioeter dimetylowy, skroplony bio-metan/ ED95. Biopaliwo z alg i paliwa z biomasy do cieczy (BTL) z gazu syntezowego, jeśli zostaną zrealizowane komercyjnie, będą przełomem dla biopaliw w całym sektorze transportu.
