Oakshott Castle And The Grange Garden is a novel written by Henry Kingsley, first published in 1895. The story is set in the English countryside and revolves around the lives of two families - the Oakshotts and the Granges. The Oakshotts are the aristocratic family that owns Oakshott Castle, while the Granges are a middle-class family that lives in the nearby village. The novel begins with the arrival of a new owner at Oakshott Castle, Sir John Oakshott. He is accompanied by his wife, Lady Oakshott, and their daughter, Maud. The Granges are excited about the arrival of the Oakshotts, as they hope to establish a friendship with them. However, the Oakshotts are not interested in socializing with the Granges and keep to themselves. As the story progresses, the Oakshotts and the Granges become entangled in a web of deceit, betrayal, and love. Maud falls in love with the Granges’ son, Harry, but their relationship is forbidden by the Oakshotts. Meanwhile, Lady Oakshott has a secret past that threatens to destroy her marriage and her family’s reputation. The novel explores themes of class, love, and social status.
