Nas últimas décadas, têm sido identificados e analisados diversos fenómenos populistas no mundo. O populismo desses fenómenos manifesta-se em atores políticos, partidos políticos e movimentos políticos da esquerda à direita, que têm sido objeto de investigação considerando a especificidade de cada local em que os fenómenos surgem e o contexto histórico dessas manifestações.Contudo, até agora, nenhum estudo procurou identificar o populismo de Jair Bolsonaro de forma mais detalhada, e muito menos sistematizar a associação do populismo enquanto ideologia de baixa densidade às ideologias clássicas e mais densas do espectro linear das ideologias políticas.É esse o contributo que os autores pretendem dar com este estudo, que é simultaneamente teórico e prático. Teórico, porque oferece um quadro de análise que possibilita a generalização da compreensão do populismo mediante a criação de uma tipologia assente nas ideologias clássicas. Empírico, porque procede à recolha de dados primários para uma observação empírica do objeto de estudo: as manifestações de populismo durante a pré-campanha e a campanha do candidato Jair Bolsonaro às eleições de 2018 no Brasil. 10
