Movses Khorenatsi (ca. 410-490s AD; Armenian: Մովսես Խորենացի, pronounced [mɔfˈsɛs χɔɾɛnɑˈtsʰi], also written as Movsēs Xorenac’i and Moses of Khoren, Moses of Choren, and Moses Chorenensis in Latin sources) was a prominent Armenian historian from the period of late antiquity and the author of the History of the Armenians.Khorenatsi is credited with the earliest known historiographical work on the history of Armenia written in Armenian, but was also a poet, or hymn writer, and a grammarian. The History of Armenia was written at the behest of Prince Sahak Bagratuni and has had an enormous impact on Armenian historiography. It was used and quoted extensively by later medieval Armenian authors. Although other Armenians, such as Agat’angeghos, had previously written histories on Armenia, Movses’ work holds particular significance because it contains unique material on the old oral traditions in Armenia before its conversion to Christianity and, more importantly, traces Armenian history from Movses’ day back to its origins.Khorenatsi is considered to be the 'father of Armenian history' (patmahayr), and is sometimes referred to as the 'Armenian Herodotus.' Khorenatsi’s work became the first attempt of a universal history of Armenia.Movses identified himself as a young disciple of Saint Mesrob, inventor of the Armenian Alphabet, and is recognized by the Armenian Apostolic Church as one of the Holy Translators.Bio:Մովսես Խորենացին համարվում է հայ միջնադարյան պատմագրության ամենակարկառուն դեմքը՝ Պատմահայրը։ Հայ սերունդները մեծարել են նրան Պատմահայր, Մեծն Մովսես, Քերթողահայր, Տիեզերահռչակյալ և այլ պատվանուններով։ Խորենացու մասին կենսագրական տեղեկությունները քիչ են։ Դրանց մեծ մասը հաղորդում է ինքը՝ հեղինակը, իր Հայոց պատմության մեջ ։ Մովսես Խորենացին ծնվել է 5-րդ դարի սկզբին՝ մոտ 410-415 թթ, ենթադրաբար՝ Տարոն գավառի Խորնի կամ Խորոն գյուղում։ 15-16 տարեկան հասակում Վաղարշապատում ուսանել է Մեսրոպ Մաշտոցի և Սահակ Պարթևի մոտ։ 434-435 թթ ընթացքում, ուսուցիչները նրան այլ աշակերտների հետ ուղարկել են Եգիպտոս։ 5-6 տարի ուսանելուց հետո Խորենացին և իր ընկերները բռնել են վերադարձի ուղին և ճանապարհվել դեպի Հունաստան։ Նրանք տեղ են հասել իրենց ուսուցիչների՝Սահակ Պարթևի և Մեսրոպ Մաշտոցի մահվանից, այսինքն՝ 440 թ փետրվարից հետո։Մովսես Խորենացու մատենագրական վաստակի թագ ու պսակը Պատմություն Հայոց երկն է, որը նա գրել է իշխան Սահակ Բագրատունու խնդրանքով։ Հայոց պատմությունը ազգային ինքնաճանաչման, քաղաքական-հայրենասիրական դաստիարակության ուսումնական ձեռնարկ է, որն ընդրգկում է հայ ժողովրդի ձևավորումից մինչև 5-րդ դար ընկած պատմությունը: Ըստ Ստեփան Մալխասյանցի՝ Խորենացին առաջինը եղավ, որ գրեց հայ ազգի պատմությունը սկզբից մինչև իր ժամանակները.... Սա մի ծննդյան վկայական էր մեր ազգի համար, որ մինչև այդ ժամանակ չգիտեր, թե ո՞վ է ինքը և ի՞նչ ծագում ունի...:
