La foresta temperata umida montana Shola e le praterie sono distribuite in una regione limitata dei Ghati occidentali meridionali, in India, uno degli ecosistemi più minacciati a livello globale. Queste foreste, che appaiono in forma frammentaria nel corridoio di Ealamalai, nella parte meridionale dei Ghati occidentali, presentano il più alto tasso di endemismo dell’intero arcipelago, ma non esistono studi specifici su questo ecosistema. Questo studio ha preso in esame 233 specie, di cui 72 endemiche dei Ghati occidentali; di queste, 47 specie sono esclusive della shola nelle foreste poco studiate, a dimostrazione dell’importanza biologica del corridoio. La rappresentazione pittorica è una caratteristica unica di questo studio. Questo studio di base è utile per identificare le piante per le generazioni future e comprendere la ricchezza e la diversità della vegetazione climatica di climax.
