Nauczanie muzyki w celu wzmocnienia umiejętności akademickich w klasach 6-12 powstało w wyniku badań naukowych, które dotyczyły strategii pedagogicznych (dydaktycznych) oraz szkolenia przed rozpoczęciem pracy zawodowej na poziomie uniwersyteckim dla nauczycieli muzyki w stanie Teksas. Uczestnicy zostali losowo wybrani spośród członków Stowarzyszenia Nauczycieli Muzyki w Teksasie, Stowarzyszenia Dyrygentów Chóralnych w Teksasie oraz Stowarzyszenia Dyrygentów Orkiestr w Teksasie. Celem tych badań i niniejszej publikacji jest podkreślenie znaczenia metod pedagogicznych jako istotnych elementów jakości i skuteczności pracy nauczycieli w zwiększaniu osiągnięć uczniów przy jednoczesnym zaspokajaniu ich potrzeb edukacyjnych, a także zwrócenie uwagi na potrzebę reformy programów kształcenia nauczycieli w zakresie wdrażania i podejmowania wyzwań związanych z kompetencjami XXI wieku. Mając to na uwadze, w niniejszym badaniu podjęto próbę zbadania praktyk dydaktycznych niektórych nauczycieli muzyki w stanie Teksas, analizując jednocześnie podejścia pedagogiczne zintegrowanego nauczania muzyki i przedmiotów akademickich.
