Ein Nanopartikel ist ein kleines Teilchen, dessen Größe und Länge in allen drei Dimensionen zwischen 1 und 100 nm liegen kann. Dieses Teilchen kann vom menschlichen Auge nicht erkannt werden und kann im Vergleich zu größeren Teilchen andere physikalische und chemische Eigenschaften aufweisen. Das Wort setzt sich aus zwei griechischen und lateinischen Wörtern zusammen, die Zwerg und Teilchen bedeuten. Wenn Materialien in Nanogröße vorliegen, weisen sie besondere Eigenschaften auf. Zum Beispiel wird Kupfer in Nanodimensionen transparent. Inerte Materialien wie Platin und Gold werden aktiviert und die Schmelztemperatur von Nanomaterialien wird drastisch gesenkt. Die Nanotechnologie hat das Potenzial, unser Leben zu verändern. Einige ihrer Anwendungen umfassen die Energiespeicherung und -erzeugung (Batterien), die Informationstechnologie, die Medizintechnik, die Reinigung und Aufbereitung von Lebensmitteln und Wasser, Präzisionsmessinstrumente und die Umwelt.Dieses Buch besteht aus 4 Kapiteln, darunter: Kapitel I (Einführung zu Nanopartikeln), Kapitel II (Synthese von Nanopartikeln), Kapitel III (Anwendungen von Nanopartikeln), Kapitel IV (Charakterisierung von Nanopartikeln).
