In questo lavoro si analizzano i modelli di utilizzo delle biblioteche da parte degli studenti in relazione ai contesti disciplinari e cognitivi. Analizzare i due contesti degli studenti universitari è fondamentale per capire come vengono utilizzate le biblioteche accademiche e quali tipi di modelli costituiscono. A questo proposito, l’autore di questo libro (K.G.D.A. Karunanayake) ha passato in rassegna le sue precedenti pubblicazioni e i risultati della sua ricerca di dottorato. I contenuti includono i risultati pratici di un lavoro di ricerca di dottorato e le idee discusse nelle pubblicazioni: 'Contesto cognitivo: Paucity of personal traits in information search', che affrontava solo l’aspetto cognitivo. Facendo un ulteriore passo avanti, lo studio mette in relazione il contesto disciplinare e il contesto cognitivo con diverse modalità di utilizzo della biblioteca. La relazione tra disciplina, contesti cognitivi e modalità d’uso della biblioteca è chiarita da tre obiettivi: la disciplina e il contesto cognitivo in relazione all’uso della biblioteca da parte degli studenti, la correlazione tra la disciplina e i contesti cognitivi degli studenti e l’atteggiamento/modalità d’uso della biblioteca, e i modelli d’uso della biblioteca esistenti (disciplina e contesti cognitivi e modalità d’uso della biblioteca) tra gli studenti.
