I parassiti gastrointestinali sono vermi o animali unicellulari che abitano o popolano il tratto intestinale causando gastroenteriti. Il libro si propone di scoprire la prevalenza di parassiti gastrointestinali tra 104 cani residenti in quattro comunità (Palm Street, Atakpa street, Anantigha e Atamunu) nell’Araea del governo locale di Calabar Sud dello Stato di Cross River, in Nigeria, utilizzando tecniche di microscopia. Il risultato ha mostrato che su 104 cani 73 cani (70,19%) erano positivi ai parassiti gastrointestinali. Il risultato ha rivelato un’elevata presenza di parassiti gastrointestinali come segue: Toxocaracanis (41%), Ancylostoma caninum (4%), Trichuris vulpis (17%), Dipylidium caninum (17%) e Cystoisospora (14%). Inoltre, i cani maschi erano meno infetti (42,47%) rispetto alle femmine (57,53%). La prevalenza dell’infezione in base al sesso e alla comunità era statisticamente significativa (p < 0,05). Pertanto, questo studio è riuscito a svelare un’elevata endemicità dell’infezione da parassiti gastrointestinali tra i cani di quattro comunità (Palm Street, Atakpa Street, Anantigha e Atamunu) nell’Araea del governo locale di Calabar Sud dello Stato di Cross River, in Nigeria.
