Uma micorriza é uma relação simbiótica entre uma planta e um fungo, sendo o termo originário de palavras do grego antigo que significam 'fungo' e 'raiz'. O termo micorriza destaca especificamente o papel do fungo no sistema radicular da planta e no solo circundante. As micorrizas são cruciais para a nutrição das plantas, a biologia do solo e a química do solo. Numa relação micorrízica, o fungo assume o controlo dos tecidos radiculares da planta hospedeira, quer dentro das células, como acontece com os fungos micorrízicos arbusculares, quer fora das células, como acontece com os fungos ectomicorrízicos. Esta relação é normalmente benéfica tanto para o fungo como para a planta. No entanto, em certas espécies ou em condições específicas, as micorrizas podem ter uma ligação parasitária com as plantas hospedeiras. Uma micorriza é uma relação mutualista entre uma planta e um fungo. A planta gera compostos orgânicos através da fotossíntese e partilha-os com o fungo sob a forma de açúcares ou lípidos. Em troca, o fungo fornece à planta água e nutrientes essenciais, como o fósforo extraído do solo. As micorrizas estão presentes nas raízes das plantas vasculares, mas associações semelhantes também podem ser encontradas nas briófitas.
