México como país y cultura fue una colorida, rica y misteriosa fuente de inspiración para el escritor estadounidense John Steinbeck. Un tercio de su obra esta basado en aspectos culturales mexicanos y mexicoamericanos. Steinbeck adquirió los elementos que darían vida a obras como La perla, El barrio de la tortilla y Por el Mar de Cortés a través de su interacción con mexicoamericanos en su natal California y en los constantes viajes que realizo a México. Así pues, en el presente trabajo en forma breve se analizan las obras ''mexicanas'' de John Steinbeck para disfrutarlas y para tocar al mismo tiempo temas que aun tienen un impacto en la vida diaria de aquellos que somos de origen mexicano y que en la actualidad vivimos al sur del Rio Bravo o en los Estados Unidos.
