Die Messung der räumlichen Variabilität des Bodens und die Identifizierung von Heterogenitäten auf Feldebene ist aus Sicht der standortspezifischen Pflanzenbewirtschaftung sehr wichtig. Die scheinbare elektrische Leitfähigkeit des Bodens (ECa), die mit verschiedenen physikalischen Eigenschaften des Bodens wie Tonanteil, Feuchtigkeitsgehalt, Schüttdichte, pH-Wert und Salzgehalt zusammenhängt, kann auf einfache Weise zur Bestimmung der räumlichen Variabilität des Bodens herangezogen werden. Das auf elektromagnetischer Induktion basierende EM38-Gerät kann, wenn es auf den Boden gestellt wird, die elektrische Leitfähigkeit des Bodens bis zu einer Tiefe von 0,75 m im horizontalen Dipolmodus und 1,5 m im vertikalen Dipolmodus messen. Um die Schwankungen der elektrischen Leitfähigkeit auf einem Feld sichtbar zu machen, ist die Kartierung der elektrischen Leitfähigkeit ebenfalls ein wichtiger Aspekt der Präzisionslandwirtschaft. Darüber hinaus wurde in dieser Studie die Genauigkeit von Interpolationsmethoden für räumlich variierende Bodeneigenschaften analysiert.
