Die vorliegende Studie wurde in der agropastoralen Zone von Kaffrine durchgeführt, wo die Viehzucht extensiv betrieben wird und das Futter von natürlichen Weiden stammt. Ziel der Studie war es, das Holzfutter zu charakterisieren und seine chemische Zusammensetzung zu bestimmen. Im Rahmen der Bestandsaufnahme wurden 28 holzige Arten identifiziert und aufgelistet, von denen 23 als Futtermittel eingestuft wurden (82,14 %). Von den als Futtermittel erfassten Arten sind 43,47% (Balanites aegyptiaca, Adansonia digitata, Tamarindus indica, Guiera senegalensis, Terminalia macroptera, Faidherbia albida, Prosopis africana, Ficus capensis, Ziziphus mauritiana und Sterculia setigera) sehr schmackhaft und 17,40% (Heeria insignis, Piliostigma reticulatum, Terminalia avicennioides und Acacia seyal) sind schmackhaft und 39,13 % (Anacardium occidentale, Cordyla pinnata, Anogeissus leiocarpus, Combretum glutinosum, Acacia ataxacantha, Azadirachta indica, Acacia nilotica, Eucaluptus alba, Securidaca longepedunculata) sind wenig schmackhaft.
