Le crociere stanno diventando sempre più popolari, e non solo sul mercato tedesco. All’interno dell’industria turistica, il mercato delle crociere è uno dei settori in maggiore crescita. Sebbene fino al 2008 la percentuale di turisti crocieristi in Germania fosse ancora bassa, pari al 2% della popolazione rispetto agli Stati Uniti, dove nel 2009 raggiungeva già il 20%, il numero di turisti crocieristi aumenta ogni anno. La vecchia immagine, definita anche 'SALZ' = rigida, vecchia, noiosa e troppo costosa, è ormai superata. Grazie alla diminuzione dei prezzi e all’utilizzo di giovani famiglie nei manifesti pubblicitari, il settore è riuscito ad attirare un pubblico più ampio.
