Les systèmes multibiométriques permettent de résoudre efficacement le problème posé par les données bruitées. Lorsque les informations obtenues à partir d’un trait biométrique sont corrompues par le bruit, il est possible d’utiliser les informations obtenues à partir de l’autre trait biométrique. Quelques cadres prennent également en considération la nature des signaux biométriques acquis au cours de la procédure de combinaison. L’estimation de la qualité des données biométriques acquises est en soi un problème difficile. Toutefois, s’ils sont correctement mis en œuvre, les systèmes multibiométriques présentent des avantages considérables. Un cadre multibiométrique fonctionne comme un cadre tolérant aux pannes en continuant à fonctionner même si les données de certaines sources biométriques ne sont pas fiables en raison de pannes de capteurs ou de programmation ou d’un contrôle délibéré de la part du client. La tolérance aux pannes est généralement souhaitable dans les systèmes d’authentification impliquant un grand nombre de sujets.
