A natureza polífaga da traça-das-tâmaras Ectomyelois ceratoniae Zeller e a sua ampla distribuição no espaço e numa variedade de hospedeiros dificultam o desenvolvimento de um sistema de controlo capaz de limitar os danos causados por esta praga, que ameaça a produção de tâmaras na Argélia.Um estudo da toxicidade do Spinosad em larvas L5 deEctomyelois ceratoniae mostrou que a mortalidade corrigida mais baixa foi observada num curto período letal (24 horas), enquanto a mortalidade atingiu 46,3% em larvas expostas durante um longo período ao biopesticida (120 horas) e tratadas com uma dose de 96 ppm. O LD50 mais baixo foi obtido para um tempo letal de 120 horas e o mais alto para um tempo letal de 24 horas.O tratamento das larvas da traça-das-tâmaras com quatro doses de espinosade mostrou que este biopesticida reduziu a fertilidade dos ovos, a taxa de eclosão, o tempo de incubação dos ovos e até a longevidade dos machos e das fêmeas da traça-das-tâmaras.
