David Lynch ha utilizzato elementi espressionisti e surrealisti per realizzare il suo ultimo film, Inland Empire (2006), un film caratterizzato anche da una narrazione non lineare sostenuta dal flusso di coscienza. Con l’uso di questa risorsa, Lynch abbatte i limiti dello spazio e del tempo e imposta il suo film in una logica disordinata e rappresentativa. Inoltre, l’estetica corporea di alcuni personaggi serve anche a illustrare gli stati onirici ed elementi come colori e oggetti che appaiono in modo ricorrente permeano il film per segnalare anche il trasporto verso un’azione immaginativa. Da questo punto di vista, è pertinente analizzare questo film, data la mancanza di lavori accademici sull’argomento. Pertanto, questo studio si propone di individuare i punti principali relativi alla narrazione e all’estetica del film, ovvero: l’assurdo, il Doppelgänger, il flusso di coscienza, gli elementi surrealisti e il corpo rappresentato in Inland Empire.
