David Lynch a utilisé des éléments expressionnistes et surréalistes pour réaliser son dernier long métrage, Inland Empire (2006), un film également caractérisé par une narration non linéaire soutenue par un flux de conscience. En utilisant cette ressource, Lynch abolit les limites de l’espace et du temps et inscrit son film dans une logique de représentation désordonnée. En outre, l’esthétique corporelle de certains personnages sert également à illustrer des états de rêve et des éléments tels que les couleurs et les objets qui apparaissent de manière récurrente imprègnent le film afin de signaler également le transport vers une action imaginative. Dans cette perspective, il est pertinent d’analyser ce film, étant donné le manque de travaux académiques sur le sujet. Cette étude vise donc à identifier les principaux points relatifs à la narration et à l’esthétique du film, à savoir : l’absurde, le Doppelgänger, le flux de conscience, les éléments surréalistes et le corps représenté dans Inland Empire.
