Historiquement, la Chine a toujours été considérée comme un grand exportateur et une destination pour l’externalisation et l’IDE. Si la Chine est aujourd’hui la deuxième économie mondiale, elle a certainement le pouvoir d’investir massivement dans d’autres pays au lieu de se contenter d’être investie. La Chine entretient de profondes relations commerciales avec les Pays-Bas depuis le XVIIe siècle. Le commerce entre les Pays-Bas et la Chine se compose principalement d’échanges de tâches plutôt que d’échanges traditionnels de marchandises, les Néerlandais semblant avoir externalisé les tâches de production et d’assemblage vers la Chine, tandis que la Chine a externalisé les activités de distribution et de gestion du commerce vers les Pays-Bas. Cette complémentarité éclaire également les motifs de l’IDE : quelles sont les dotations relatives des Pays-Bas qui ont motivé cette décision de créer (c’est-à-dire d’établir une succursale internationale) plutôt que de simplement acheter (c’est-à-dire d’externaliser) aux Pays-Bas ? Le présent document s’attache à déterminer les déterminants de l’IDE chinois aux Pays-Bas, compte tenu des possibilités qu’ont les entreprises chinoises de réduire les coûts de transaction grâce à cette décision d’implantation. Les déterminants trouvés permettront d’expliquer pourquoi la décision d’achat n’a pas été prise.
