George Lorimer was born in Kentucky in 1859. In 1899 he became editor-in-chief of The Saturday Evening Post, and remained in charge until his death. He served as vice president, president, and chairman of the Curtis Publishing Company which published the Post. Published in 1903 the complete title of this book is Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to His Son Being the Letters written by John Graham, Head of the House of Graham & Company, Pork-Packers in Chicago, familiarly known on ’Change as 'Old Gorgon Graham,' to his Son, Pierrepont, facetiously known to his intimates as 'Piggy.' The letters and illustrations in this book provide a wonderful look at he relationship of a father to his young who is on the verge of manhood.
