Le microARN (abrégé miARN) est une petite molécule d’ARN non codante (contenant environ 22 nucléotides) que l’on trouve dans les plantes, les animaux et certains virus, et qui joue un rôle dans le silençage de l’ARN et la régulation post-transcriptionnelle de l’expression des gènes. Si la majorité des miARN sont situés à l’intérieur de la cellule, certains miARN, communément appelés miARN circulants ou miARN extracellulaires, ont également été trouvés dans l’environnement extracellulaire, y compris dans divers fluides biologiques et milieux de culture cellulaire.
