Bien qu’elles soient nées et aient grandi dans une société similaire à d’autres communautés à travers le monde, Mary, l’auteure, et Sharon et Rose, ses coauteures, toutes trois doctorantes dans des universités kenyanes et enseignantes diplômées, se sont intéressées de près à la manière dont la présence de conflits (dont l’effet est largement ignoré, en particulier sur le lieu de travail) a eu une grande influence sur les performances des employés, et en particulier sur les enseignants qui, dans le contexte kenyan, ont toujours été confrontés à des interruptions de travail en raison de conflits sociaux incessants, ce qui a entraîné divers types de conflits sur le lieu de travail qui ont généralement un effet négatif sur les performances des enseignants dans les écoles secondaires du district central de Nyeri, un sous-district du comté de Great Nyeri au Kenya.
