As ratazanas castanhas urbanas (Rattus norvegicus) estão frequentemente implicadas na propagação de Leptospira spp. As ratazanas castanhas urbanas (n = 116) foram apanhadas em diferentes locais perto de lagos e lagoas dos distritos de Holoseevo e Obolon de Kiev e testadas para detetar Leptospira spp. utilizando um teste de aglutinação (MAT), que foi realizado com 21 grupos serológicos de Leptospira. Foi identificada a circulação de Leptospira patogénica na população urbana de ratos castanhos de Kiev, na Ucrânia. No total, 65 (56%) ratos foram positivos por MAT. Os anticorpos contra os serogrupos Grippotyphosa, Mini e Ballum foram dominantes nas reacções positivas.
