Lo scopo di questa ricerca era quello di indagare il contesto socio-culturale di Wentworth a Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Sudafrica. L’obiettivo era quello di mostrare l’importanza della ricerca nel campo del design e della pratica fotografica per le questioni sociali. Data la natura distintamente 'colour' di Wentworth, è stata consultata la letteratura per definire la storia, le dinamiche attuali e le complessità dell’identità colour. Per questa indagine è stata condotta un’analisi qualitativa utilizzando il metodo della Grounded Theory. Per la raccolta dei dati è stato utilizzato un approccio collaborativo, o partecipativo, lavorando a stretto contatto con le famiglie e i gruppi sanitari, ecclesiastici e non governativi di Wentworth. I metodi di raccolta dati qualitativi utilizzati per raccogliere i dati primari sono stati la documentazione fotografica e le interviste.
