La cannella è stata precedentemente studiata per la sua attività insulino-potenziante in numerosi studi in vitro e in vivo. Lo scopo di questo studio è stato quello di esaminare gli effetti dell’integrazione di cannella sul glucosio plasmatico a digiuno (FPG), sul profilo lipidico del sangue, sulla composizione corporea e sui marcatori standard di salute, tra cui la pressione sanguigna, la frequenza cardiaca e la variabilità della frequenza cardiaca (HRV). Diversi marcatori, tra cui la tolleranza al glucosio, la resistenza all’insulina e la sensibilità all’insulina, sono stati misurati al basale e dopo l’intervento. Un totale di dieci individui sani sono stati reclutati per ricevere 3 g di cannella al giorno per una settimana. Dopo sette giorni di trattamento, sono state osservate diminuzioni significative di FPG, risposte al test di tolleranza al glucosio per via orale e HRV rispetto al basale, ma non ci sono stati cambiamenti significativi nel profilo lipidico, nelle variabili antropometriche, nella pressione sanguigna, nella frequenza cardiaca o negli indici di sensibilità/resistenza all’insulina. In conclusione, lo studio attuale suggerisce che il consumo di 3 g di cannella al giorno può essere efficace per migliorare lo stato glicemico e quindi ridurre i fattori di rischio legati al diabete e alle malattie cardiovascolari.
