Peu de livres ont, autant que le Yih-king, mis à l’épreuve la sagacité et la patience des interprètes.Parmi les Chinois on compte par centaines les lettrés qui se sont voués à l’élucidation des mystères, des énigmes accumulés comme à plaisir dans ce monument que l’on veut faire passer pour le plus ancien du monde.Tous ces efforts ont abouti à une variété, qu’on me permette ce mot, à un salmigondis d’explications dont on ne saurait trouver un exemple ailleurs. En un seul point seulement les interprètes sont unanimes, c’est que le Yih-king est à la fois un livre de divination et un trésor de richesses scientifiques. C’est un abîme dont on ne peut sonder la profondeur et dont la hauteur défie toute atteinte.
