L’étude en question visait à examiner comment s’organisait et se développait le jeu pratiqué par un groupe d’enfants dans le contexte scolaire, en identifiant les aspects de la vie quotidienne que les enfants reflétaient dans leurs jeux, ce qui apparaissait comme une appropriation des valeurs, des connaissances, des règles sociales et des formes de comportement. Les lignes directrices de la recherche ont été dérivées des interprétations de Vygotsky, Elkonin et Leontiev sur l’imaginaire dans le jeu, ainsi que d’autres recherches sur le sujet également menées au Brésil, telles que Moraes (1980), Bomtempo (1984), Oliveira (1994), Almeida (1995), Kishimoto (1996), Gonçalves (1998), Góes (2000), entre autres. Les analyses se sont appuyées sur des enregistrements vidéo et des notes cursives des épisodes de jeux développés par un groupe d’enfants âgés de 5 à 6 ans. Les résultats indiquent que les activités de jeux protagonisés se caractérisaient de différentes manières : certains jeux se développaient à partir de l’annonce d’un thème donné, d’autres à partir de la manifestation verbale d’un intérêt pour interpréter un rôle donné, et d’autres encore à partir de la mise en place d’un décor qui, par conséquent, orientait le thème du jeu.
