Le acque sotterranee rappresentano oggi una delle fonti più importanti di acqua dolce nel mondo. Questa risorsa idrica è ampiamente utilizzata in agricoltura, in seguito all’intensificazione delle coltivazioni volta ad aumentare la produzione per sfamare una popolazione in crescita, e viene impiegata anche nell’industria e per uso umano. A causa del loro crescente utilizzo, il livello delle acque sotterranee si sta abbassando di giorno in giorno, creando così minacce dirette all’agricoltura, con una conseguente riduzione della produzione agricola e dei terreni coltivabili, oltre a ripercussioni sui sistemi di irrigazione. In questo momento, l’uso sostenibile delle acque sotterranee è essenziale per affrontare le minacce future. Pertanto, la gestione delle acque sotterranee è fondamentale per superare questa situazione. Il cambiamento climatico rappresenta una minaccia sia per le acque dolci superficiali che per quelle sotterranee, poiché incide sui parametri di qualità dell’acqua, portando così al degrado ambientale. Lo studio ha evidenziato le fluttuazioni del livello delle acque sotterranee e il loro impatto sull’irrigazione a Jessore, in Bangladesh. Sebbene vi siano molti limiti, anche piccoli sforzi possono contribuire a promuovere una riflessione sull’uso sostenibile delle acque sotterranee.
